Joe McElderry is on course to reach number one with his single ‘The Climb’, according to midweek sales figures. The X Factor winner, who was sensationally held off the Christmas top spot by Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Killing In The Name’, is currently outselling his rivals by two to one. ‘The Climb’ has shifted 80,000 copies over the past two days, while ‘Killing In The Name’ has sold 40,000. McElderry’s success has been driven by CD sales of ‘The Climb’, which stand at 53,000 so far this week. In other news, bookmakers are reportedly facing a payout of over £1 million after Rage Against The Machine beat Joe McElderry to the Christmas number one spot. Rage’s ‘Killing In The Name’, which became the subject of a Facebook campaign to stop the X Factor winner getting to number one, was originally given 100/1 odds of making it to the festive top stop two weeks ago.

Actress Brittany Murphy, best known for her performances in Clueless, 8 Mile and Sin City, died Dec. 20 after going into cardiac arrest, according to law enforcement officials. She was 32. Murphy also starred in such hits as Girl Interrupted, Don’t Say a Word and Happy Feet. She also had a number of prominent voice roles, most notable as Luanne in the Fox animated series King of the Hill, for which she won an Annie Award for Voice Acting in an Animated Television Production in 2005. As a singer, she had a dance hit with “Faster Kill Pussycat,” a collaboration with DJ Paul Oakenfold. Murphy’s husband, Simon Monjack, opened up about what really happened the day Murphy was found unresponsive in the shower at their Los Angeles home, the British screenwriter claimed that up until then, it had just been “a regular day.” Still according to Monjack, “[Her mother] Sharon went into the bathroom because she had been in there a long time. Her mom screamed for me and I ran. Then called 911.” Such a shame, she was a great actress and currently has three films that she has finished filming that are yet to be released and Murphy was due to reprise her role as penguin Gloria in the sequel to animated feature Happy Feet. Though it is a remake, Zombie promised his film will be much different than the original because he will remove the gigantic Jello creature. “My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing – that’s the first thing I want to change. That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now,” he explained.

Zombie further revealed about what he plans to do with his upcoming project, saying “I’d been looking to break out of the horror genre, and this really is a science fiction movie about a thing from outer space.” He added, “I intend to make it scary, and the great thing is I have the freedom once again to take it in any crazy direction I want to.”

“The Blob” is based on American horror film which centers on an amorphous Jello creature which dissolves people around it. Zombie has begun writing the script for the remake project and is expected to complete it during his tour in winter. Meanwhile, producers believe the shooting will be ready to start in Spring 2010.
